Blaeu, Townbook of the Northern Netherlands
The greatest of the Dutch townbooks in a magnificent contemporary colouring
BLAEU Joan. Novum Ac Magnum Theatrum Urbium Belgicae Liberae Ac Foederatae, Ad praesentis temporis faciem expressum A Ioanne Blaeu, Amstelaedamensi.
Amsterdam: W. & J. Blaeu, [1649]. Second Latin edition. Engraved title page (old coloured and heightened in gold) + 139 mostly double-page plates, all finely coloured by a contemporary hand. Original Dutch publisher's atlas binding in maroon leather gilt (restored), gilt-panelled with large central gilt arabesque, spine in eight compartments with raised bands, gilt edges. Collector's stamp "Walter Ashburner - Firenze" on frontispice and on last page, the same owner signature on the back of the front cover dated "Firenze,1908".
