"The double Cinnamon Rose" - C.J. Trew, 42x29cm (sheet size: 44x31cm), old hand coloured. Plate 38, after G.D. Ehret, , from: Hortus Nitidissumus. Nürnberg, Seligmann, 1750-1772.

Christoph Jakob Trew was a distinguished physician of Nuremberg who interested himself in botanical description and bibliography. The "Hortus nitidissimis" was his second magnificent flower book. The drawings were made by G.D. Ehret and other fine artists. It contains nearly 200 coloured engravings of a wide range of the cultivated plants of the period. Ehret is regarded by Wilfrid Blunt as one of the greatest botanical artists of all time. The "Hortus Nitidissimis" is described by Hunt as "One of the finest mid-century works".
