de Bry J. Th. & Ferrari G.B. Frankfurt am Main, M. Merian, 1641. Folio, contemporary vellum, some rubbing at lower spine. 14pp including engraved title and 174 plates (5 folding), a few leaves browned, two pages with repaired lower corner not affecting the image. Nice copy of this very rare botanical book.

Hunt (Botanical Books), 237 (Latin text); Pritzel, 1299; Nissen (BBI), 274

The engraved title, and first thirty-two plates (reworked and reversed, numbered 1-32), are from G.B. Ferrari's De Florum Cultura, Rome, 1633. The engraved plates for de Bry are numbered 1-50, 50 [bis] and 51-141. Hunt calls for a plate 142. Other differences with the Hunt copy: No plate "Hortus A Johanne Swindio", two times plate 50, one with the orginal number 49 scratched over and changed into 50. The sequence of the page numbers is as follow: 49, 49 changed into 50, 50, 51 ...

Hunt: Inquiries proved that most copies seem to have variations in the plates so that it is impossible to describe an "ideal" copy. The copy in the New York Botanical Gardens has also no plate 142.
